After being behind the Chevy-powered Lola T-70s with his "McLaren-Elva Mk.1" and Oldsmobile powered "McLaren M1B" Bruce McLaren finally abandoned the lightweight aluminum Oldsmobile V-8 and introduced a new M1B with a Chevrolet engine also prepared by Traco, the McLaren-Elva Mk 2/McLaren M1B in September 1966.
Still using a tube-frame chassis, the M1B was designed around a Chevy engine, but a Ford or an Olds engine could also be installed. The new body design pratically eliminated the front-end lift that had plagued the M1A.

CanAm Races 1966 to 1973

This series, known as the “Can-Am”, the first and most impressive period lasted 9 seasons (1966-1974). It was the most famous Can-Am era. Group 7 sports racing cars were almost totally unrestricted and they were the quickest cars in the world at the time - quicker then F1 or sportscars running in the World Championship. Many top F1 drivers also raced in the Can-Am of those days.

Chaparral 2C

Chaparral 2C is one of the least known models. The 2C was actually build in 2 slightly different configurations, the one that raced at Kent and Riverside that had the exhaust pipes coming upwards at 45deg. And the second configuration that raced in Nassau that had the exhausts coming out through the rear grids.
In 1/43 scale there are 2 companies that built the Nassau configuration they are ESDO and Marsh Models (as kits). I already had the ESDO kit that I built some years ago. Recently I purchased the Marsh Models Chaparral 2C already built, so having 2 Nassau configurations I decided to convert the ESDO into a Kent configuration with the upward exhausts and it also includes an additional improvement that is the actual movement of the "Flipper wing. These photos show the ESDO model after the modifications. Chaparral 2C version 1 built by myself from an Esdo kit P/N: 53.
