s/n: M6A/3 - Sunoco Special is a McLaren M6A modified according to the “B” specification and entered by Roger Penske. The car is in fact a M6A/3 that was used as a spare car by the McLaren works team in 1967, then McLaren team used it as a M6B prototype and later sold it to Penske team.
Race: Bridgehampton 1968 #6 Penske Racing Team with Mark Donohue 1st Overall Grid=4th.
Engine: Chevy V8 ohv 6997cc 640hp at 7000r Lucas FI 5sp 800kg 28 built.
With a characteristic periscope inlet and a moving rear aileron manually controlled, Donohue becomes the toughest challenger to the McLaren M8A works cars. It stayed in the race to the title up to the last race and its best performance was the win at Bridgehampton.
